Expanded polystyrene foam – a highly versatile performer

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is another material widely used in protective packaging applications. While the cushioning properties of EPS foam are not as good as polyethylene or polyurethane foams, its many other unique characteristics make this material an ideal fit for many packaging applications; those characteristics include:

• dimensional stability
• thermal insulation properties
• high moisture resistance
• low vapor transmission
• high chemical resistance
• low cost per cubic foot

EPS foams can be molded into complex shapes, or fabricated to size by hot-wire cutting.
